Masquerade

It was never really easy, but did it have to be so hard

Did you ever stop and wonder, why the rifts of rivers part

I’d rather play your angel, than walk with you to end

That way I could see beneath the mask that you pretend

So polish up your armor, and close your eyes to see

The ones that you are fooling, were meant to never be

I’ll be there in the wings now, waiting in the crowd

Take a look within now, your silence screams so loud

The quieter that you become, the more that you expose

That face that never really fit, you never even chose

It was really always easy, to be the better one

A cost to watch the tapestry of lies to come undone

Did you ever stop and wonder, who will be there in the end

It’s not the genes you wear over obligations of pretend

I’d rather fight the demons and pay the price for being real

Than float upon a pillowed cloud

Where others are surreal
